Under the direction of the Executive Vice President of Student Success (EVP), the Dean of Community Education and Strategic Engagement oversees the instructional unit of community education and the day-to-day operations of the Education Center at Walker's Square. The Dean will collaborate with College leadership and department leaders to coordinate campus-level activities. This role includes representing the College to the public and diverse constituencies, establishing strategies that align with the College's mission, particularly to needs of regional campuses and Walker's Square as well as serving as a change agent for diversity, equity, inclusion, and innovation, while applying data-informed decision-making and continuous quality improvement to achieve goals. The Dean provides leadership and supervision for faculty and staff in community education programs, including ELL, GED/HSED, Adult High School and Avocational programs, ensuring effective budget management, program design, course scheduling, and daily operations.

Additionally, the Dean supports the development and sustainability of community-based organizations related to the Community Education Division, oversees curriculum development, and ensures alignment with state and federal standards. The Dean also serves as the strategic lead of Workforce Solutions and Dual Enrollment, managing relationships with high schools and districts, overseeing dual enrollment course offerings, and leading the development of articulation and transfer agreements with institutions at the local, state, and international levels. Furthermore, the Dean provides oversight of international studies, in particular Study Abroad, to promote global education.

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities


  • Center Leadership and Strategic Initiatives: Develops and maintains a center environment that ensures the quality and consistency of the student experience. Collaborates with the EVP, VPs of Enrollment and Retention, and Learn in student recruitment, FTE goal attainment, retention, and overall student success initiatives and efforts. Collaborates with other Vice Presidents, Deans and the Associate Dean for Community Education to provide overall direction for the planning and development of programs, courses and class schedules to offer curriculum that meets the diverse needs of the communities served at respective campuses. Ensures that Center Student Services and Support Services are meeting the needs of the students.
  • Scheduling Management: Coordinates with the enrollment and scheduling teams to approve the schedule of classes taught each term that fits in the general scheduling policy of the college, including staffing of those classes and approving class cancellation decisions for this academic unit. Collaborates with Education Directors at the Wisconsin Technical College System office on all activities to promote Adult Education in the District.
  • Policy Development and Implementation: In partnership with the EVP, and District Vice Presidents and Deans, formulates, recommends and implements plans, policies, and practices. Coordinates with Public Safety and local law enforcement officials to review and maintain policies which provide a safe teaching, learning and work environment for students, faculty and staff.
  • Room Scheduling, Leasing and Rentals: Supervises and implements all non-academic and academic room scheduling at the center in collaboration with the VPs of Enrollment and Retention and the VP of Learn and the deans (academic). Responsible for leasing and rental of campus facilities.
  • Committee Participation and System Engagement: Participates in cross-functional committees and organizes, reviews, and debriefs meetings among stakeholders. Maintain a close working relationship with Higher Learning Commission (HLC), Wisconsin Technical College System (WTCS) administrative and consultative staff, implements state policies and directives applicable to the instructional function, supports grant functions, outcomes-based funding, and WTCS mandates.
  • Budgeting & Fiscal Responsibility: Responsible for Walker's Square budget while collaborating with the EVP and District VPs on initiatives for efficiencies in staffing and finances. Participates in audit reviews as needed.
  • Cross Functional Relationships and Collaborative Teamwork: Establishes, maintains, and enhances positive work relationships with staff, faculty, and administrators. Works collaboratively with team members, Pathway Deans, and colleagues, to achieve College objectives and provide a high level of service to students and employees by developing and sustaining effective working relationships and partnerships. Maintains high standards of professionalism within a matrix environment.
  • Leadership and Supervision: Develops and manages high performing teams with highly skilled and motivated staff focused on the delivery of quality and value-added services, and allocates cross-functional responsibilities and work processes. Responsibilities include hiring, coaching/mentoring, performance management, and progressive discipline as needed for departments supervised.
  • Ethics and Confidentiality: Practices honesty by demonstrating a consistent and uncompromising adherence to strong moral and ethical principles, values, truthfulness and accuracy in all actions. Addresses all student and employee behavior in a confidential and respectful manner.
  • Continuous Learning & Professional Development: Maintains current knowledge of best practices and standards in higher education with an emphasis on community Colleges. Actively organizes and/or participates in applicable workgroups, trainings, workshops, seminars, committees and professional associations or conferences to promote continuous learning.

Qualifications


Compliance with all state, federal, and accreditation standards/requirements, as well as all MATC policies and procedures.

Required Education & Experience: A master's degree from an accredited college or university in education, leadership, administration, student development or related field. Five (5) years of experience in the areas of student development, retention services, student completion, equity and student success. Minimum of two (2) years involved in supervisory and/or administrative responsibilities including managing teams.

Preferred Education & Experience: A master's degree with seven (7) years of experience performing student development, retention services, student completion, equity and student success duties. More than two (2) years of supervisory, management, or lead experience in admissions, enrollment and/or registrar, records.

Start Date:
The position supports the Executive Vice President of Student Success. Anticipated start date January 6, 2025.

Hours/Location:
This position works at Walker's Square.

Hourly Rate:
This is a exempt salaried position paid $104,866 - $141,572. Salary is listed to the midpoint of the salary range and is based on the 2024/2025 rates and are determined by years of experience credit and internal salary equity.
